Stimulating the Economy

Monday, May 12, 2008

For the first time in years, the La Costa Mom family are getting a tax refund! Add to that the bribe from Bush stimulus check, we'll be looking at a tidy little sum for ye olde bank account. This is our state refund. I'll be stalking the mailbox this week looking for the others.

Hubby and I disagree as to what to do with it.

I want all of it to go in the bank. He wants to go to Disneyland.

I want to take advantage of the upcoming Memorial Day/Fourth of July Zero Down, No Payments till Armageddon furniture sales and re-do the living room. He thinks a flat screen also qualifies as furniture.

My mom got us this couch several years ago from Goodwill. I hate it. But the one it replaced was even worse. This is what happened after DS has spent hours jumping on the cushions.

What are you doing with your refund? Do you believe that credit is evil and if you can't buy it outright you can't afford it? Or is charge it! your middle name?

  1. I'm with you! Save it and then fix up the house a little with the 0%. As long as you pay the 0% off before the time frame you owe nothing. And...in the mean time, your refund is collecting a little bit of interest :) The idea of spending the whole refund on one thing makes me nervous....b/c then it is gone :)

Have to admit, I'm a 'savings' convert....used to buy on credit, but my husband convinced me of the error of my ways..so, now we stay debt free. Much happier place to be :) Have fun deciding what to do.

BTW...love your Mother's day gifts from the kids!

  2. We're using ours to pay for a move. LOL.

I'm definitely leery of credit simply because we haven't been wise with it in the past. Better to avoid the temptation for us.
