PrompTuesday: I Asked Him to Marry Me with No Underwear On

Monday, March 23, 2009

This is my second attempt at PROMPTuesday. This week's theme, love, is extra special and important because someone I like, admire and think is SO funny is soon to be affianced, but doesn't know it yet. Secret surprises are awesome! If you'd like to get in on the love, and write your own PROMPT, go visit my SFAM (sistah from another mister) Deb and read the rules. This is a short story, with a moral, but one I've not told here before.

I mentioned in my 10-year anniversary post that I proposed to Phil. When we got "engaged," we were living in a two-bedroom apartment in Ocean Beach. One of his Navy buddies was our roommate. Phil was at sea, our roommate was heading out shortly after and their ships were scheduled to cross paths in Hawaii. Phil was coming home for his sister's wedding in a few weeks and I would pick him up at March Air Force Base.

Before our roommate left, I went to Victoria's Secret and bought a small bit of lace, sprayed it with Phil's favorite perfume and wrapped it in tissue paper. I gave the package to our roommate along with a note that read, "Bring these with you when I pick you up because I won't be wearing any," and asked him to give it to Phil when he saw him. A few weeks later, on Friday, September 4th, 1998, with no undies on, I asked Phil to marry me.

Relationships can be hard. Marriage, a good strong one, takes effort and work. But never forget to keep it fun!

If you want to participate in Proposal 2.0, write a post about love, marriage, your engagement story or best relationship advice you've ever received and add it to the Mr. Linky here. *Update* 3/25 She said YES!!!!!

Works for Me Wednesday: Frugal Valentine's Day 2010

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

I got the idea to post this tip from one of the comments on my Valentine's Day picture. Stephanie thought they were all my Valentine's Day gift. Only one of the boxes (the big one with the ribbon center) was a gift. Hubs gave it to me last year. I got the others during my time as a Godiva employee.

Aside: Yes, I loved being around chocolate all day, no, I didn't get tired of chocolate and yes, we
had to eat it all the time. I know, tough life, right?

We got a killer discount even on sale merchandise so I started collecting them to use as part of my decorating. Most people don't know that you don't have to fill the heart with Godiva pieces. You can purchase just the empty heart box and it becomes a neat keepsake.

I wanted to make sure I got one of this year's designs because i
t's really pretty. I bought an empty heart then filled it with the hubs' favorite candies. I did the same thing last year. It might become a tradition. He doesn't like "fouffy" candy and most of what I buy comes from the dollar store and See's. (shhhh, don't tell Godiva)

Buying an empty heart is significantly less expensive than buying a pre-filled one, but those tend to go really fast since most people prefer to customize their gifts over buying the pre-filled hearts. We had so many customers bring in their empty hearts year after year to be filled. It was awesome to see some of the designs from years ago.

Another option is to take a chance and wait until the day after Valentine's Day. If there are any pre-filled heart boxes left in the stores they'll be half off (and since Godiva is now $40 a pound that's an excellent deal!). You'll have the keepsake heart and the chocolates. Bonus!

But, unless the economy is hurting sales, people will be lined up waiting outside the store the day after a holiday to snatch up anything left over. The day after Valentine's Day is the the most popular time to hit the store (at least that was my experience years ago). The hearts are shipped to the store in their own cardboard box so make sure to ask the staff if they have any left over. They're perfect for storage.

Do you have any Valentine's Day traditions?

(Not Even Close To) Wordless Wednesday: Tide Pools

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

I was trying for an On Golden Pond type of look with this photo. The father walked into the shot and I decided to go with it. I love how it turned out. I took a few more of them but this one is the best. While I was reviewing the pictures on the LCD, they ran off down the beach. I was going to offer to email him since I know a moment like this is so precious. Seeing a dad with his child like this always makes me melt. Kids grow so fast.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday : The Kids at Sunset

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

I'm having so much fun with my new camera! These two belong to my friend/neighbor.

I have no idea who the little girl on the end is.

Drama Kid's face when I asked him to hold hands with B was priceless (but I missed the shot, darn it). But they cozied up by the firepit later. Could be a relationship in the works.

**ETA- The little girl on the end is B and B's cousin. In my hurry to get the photos taken before the light was gone, I hadn't been introduced to her yet.

Re Post: My Christmas Wish List

Saturday, November 29, 2008

I am re-posting this as a reminder to the few two who wanted to participate but also because I have a few new subscribers (hello!) who may want to participate and because Link Love is awesome.

Next week, on Tuesday December 2nd, I will be posting the five things I'd put on my Christmas list if money were no object. You can write a post on your blog and come here to add it to the Mr. Linky. It seems that blog brain freeze is going around and I'm glad to help any of you who have run dry after NaBloHoHoHo. You're very welcome.

Any Interest in A Christmas Wishlist Carnival?

Friday, October 24, 2008

I am thinking of doing a What I'd Put on My Christmas List if Money Were No Object post. Is anyone interested in playing along? We can limit it to 5 things. Leave a comment if you're interested. If enough people want to play I'll put up a Mr. Linky. (Image from here)

Wordless Wednesday #17: The Happiest Place on Earth

I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough...

Saturday, October 11, 2008

Steph tagged me with a meme. Since I love her dearly, I will happily play along. The rules:

"It’s easy peasy, kids. I just want you to write five positive things about yourself. I don’t care how goofy or weird those things are; I simply want them to be things you think are rad and that you absolutely believe with your whole heart. Like don’t hand me any “I’m a great mom!!” stuff if you actually think you’re only a pretty good mom. See what I mean? After you write your list, tag five other people to compose a list. Maybe we can fight this blogfluitis, five bloggers at a time."

I'm feeling pretty good so this will be easy:

1. I'm very organized. I have been called anal and take it as a compliment.

2. I am a good friend. I don't make friends easily, but once I decide I like you, we're like velcro.

3. I'm a good dancer. Not ballroom (though I love the Tango) but on the dance floor. I have been told I'm sexy.

4. I am very generous. I really like to give and make other people happy.

5. I make great baked beans. Ask Deb. Or Cheri. I think "orgasm" was mentioned somewhere.

I will reach for the sky and tag
Mr. Lady
, Bossy, Moosh in Indy, Tootsie, and Latte Mommy.

What do you like about yourself?

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Look at Those Lashes!

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

5 Minutes for Mom is having a Sleeping Angels photo contest for a chance to win a Summer Breeze bedroom set.

I check on my little guy at least once (usually twice) before I go to bed and I always wonder where he got those lashes. Certainly not from me!
