Updated Reading List

Thursday, September 18, 2008

My mom and I have the same taste in books. Whenever we're together, whether it's at Costco, the mall or Target, we generally end up cruising through the book isle. If we both see something we'd like one of us will buy it and pass it on to the other.

We can often be heard saying something along the lines of, "I don't need to bring another book into the house right now!" but invariably the deals will be too good to pass up and we'll each leave the store with an armload. The last time she was here, I took her to my library's used book store. She was in heaven. We rarely go anywhere without a book.

We're both pretty picky about who we lend our books to. We're "good" readers and treat our books very well and expect others to do the same. I have rules when I lend out a book:

1. No dog-eared pages
2. Don't crack the spine

3. No leaving the book open, turned upside down to hold your place

I know. I have issues.

Anyway, when I first started this blog I created a thread with some of my recent reads. At the time, I wished it could have been a more complete
list, but I had given my mom a giant stack of books and couldn't remember all the titles.

You know where this is going, right?

Click over to my reading list. I've added all these titles starting with The Alphabet Sisters (scroll down, it's in red). I've also linked to the reviews on Amazon. I'm thinking of selling all these on Amazon or posting them on Craigslist. Anyone have good luck with Amazon? Is it worth the hassle?

  1. Before you put them on Craigslist, can I have a shot at 'em? How much are you selling them for???

  2. Oh lookie you have a buyer right there and you didn't even have to put them on Craigslist.

I've never put anything out on Amazon before, but if you do decide to go that route, let me know how it goes. Craigslist, yeah I've had lost of success with that.

Have you checked out Goodreads yet?

  3. We would never be able to share books. I am really hard on them. All your rules? I break them constantly. In my opinion, wear and tear is the sign of a well-loved book. :)

  4. Or I'm too lazy to get up and look for the bookmark that probably dropped on the floor.

  7. Hi Mel, just discovered your blog and I like it! I'm a voracious reader too, but live in southern Italy and so am sort of out of the loop on what's happening bookwise in the States. Just copied your WHOLE book list and will have to check them out on Amazon!

I also like that you're a *dramatic* mom! So am I and I have two dramatic sons...biological revenge? My mother says "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"!

Come visit me on my blogs, if you have time!

  8. p.s. you'd best not lend me any of your books either. My very first move is to break the binding decisively! ;-)

  11. I love the respect for books. I sold a bunch last year on Amazon, it was easy except for the frequent trips to the post office to mail them off. Also I found that the less mainstream my books were the faster they sold (and for more money!)

You could always do a giveaway on your blog... :-)

  14. Just came over from Mamasphere ... I just bought 16 books over the weekend on Ebay. I buy at least 2 books a week there. Ever think of Ebay? You could even list the titles and make them first come first serve on your blog. All you'd have to do is get a paypal account and take payments that way. :)

Let me know if you do end up selling them online. I'd love to buy some! :)

  15. I sell books on amazon. It's really easy. It doesn't make a ton of money, but I think it's still worth it.

    Daja, stopped by from BATW!

  16. I wish I had time and energy to read. The last book I read was "Strange Skies" by Matt Marinovich. It was funny, sweet, strange, I was engaged and read it twice in the same week (we were traveling and I had nothing else to read). This was during school brake. Now I'm back in school reading Mythology, culture, music appreciation and art appreciation books instead. They're just not as fun because I have to read them.

However, I've been told that it is a good idea to read something other then required books to keep the mind flexible and interested- maybe there's some truth to this.

  18. I like half.com. I also like local used bookstores but thats because I am a book hog too and will trade them in. I would not suggest cl for books, people want too much of a deal for them.. wish we were closer, you have some good stuff!
