To My Son on His Last Day of Kindergarten

My Dearest Boy-
Congratulations on such a successful first year of school. Your daddy and I are so very proud of you! You have worked so hard this year and you should be proud of yourself too.

When you started kindergarten, you were shy and would hold onto my leg and cry before going into the classroom. Now, I'm lucky if your lips actually touch my flesh as you speed past me with a hurried, "bye mom!"

When you started kindergarten, you couldn't read or spell. Now, when Daddy says, "I think I'll take him to the P-O-O-L today," you're off to get your suit on after the second 'O', and YOU read bedtime stories to US.

When you started kindergarten, girls were yucky, weird and you thought they talk a lot. Now you're in an on-again, off-again relationship with C (if she dumps you again for J, I say let her go for good this time).

When you started kindergarten, you wore a size 4 pant. Now, the size 6's I just bought barley need to be cuffed.

I may be losing my baby, but you're growing into quite an amazing little man. We love you!
Love, Mommy and Daddy

  4. Jamie- We went to an informational meeting about first grade yesterday and I almost lost it.

Steph- I'm sure I'll be looking back on today saying, "but you just left kindergarten!"

Sarah- That's putting it mildly. When he stands in front of me, my girls almost rest on the top of his head.
